MONTHLY MEMBERSHIP LUNCHEON - August 2010
Date: August 11, 2010
Time: 11:30 AM - 1:00 PM
Event Description
The August 11 Membership Luncheon will be presented by Athens Independent School District.
Athens Independent School District is committed to Excellence! The upcoming school year will no doubt be exciting for those students just beginning their public education, all the way through to those who will be preparing for their future after graduation in May, 2011. The District anticipates an enrollment of more than 3500 students and the much needed classroom additions being finished at Athens Middle School, Intermediate and South, will allow for fewer portable classrooms to be leased. A ribbon cutting ceremony will be held at Athens Intermediate on Wednesday, August 25th at 10:00 a.m. The public is invited and encouraged to attend the ceremony and tour the facilities.
Excellence in safe and secure facilities is just one of the many ways Athens ISD is committed to the children served. Every employee is committed to helping every child in the district achieve their fullest potential in order to graduate on time and be college and work ready. Academic excellence is evidenced by the continued increase in campus ratings as determined by the Texas Education Agency. All district campuses, Pre-Kindergarten through 8th grade, have earned the TEA ‘Recognized’ rating. This first ever accomplishment in district history follows last year’s achievement of all campuses through 5th grade holding the ‘Recognized’ rating. District and campus administrators are committed to seeing ‘Recognized’, at least, on all campuses this coming year.
Excellence, in any district, does not just happen. In Athens, Dr. Fred Hayes, Superintendent of Schools, is the visionary who leads the district staff of 495. His legacy could easily be stated that he ‘is never satisfied’. “Until 100% of the students who are served by Athens ISD achieve 100%, says Dr. Hayes, we should not be satisfied”. Every student counts, every student matters. Beginning his fifth year in Athens, Dr. Hayes has persisted in seeing the district be the best it can be. Whether it’s curriculum, instruction, staff, extracurricular activities, facilities or finances, Dr. Hayes has expected Excellence. Change takes time, but Excellence is what you are now seeing in Athens ISD.
This coming year, expect to see a continued pursuit of Excellence in academic achievement and providing safe and emotionally secure environments for students, faculty and staff. In addition, maximizing financial resources, enhancing character development in every student, developing and retaining district staff and implementing a vigorous parent and community involvement program are targets to be achieved so that ATHENS ISD is not only among the best school districts in the State, but also among the best in the country!
